Botox injections are another option offered to those with cerebral palsy. Botox is injected in the stiff muscles and stops the signals between nerves and muscles. The muscles become relaxed and less stiff. Those muscles are then able to be stretched easier making it easier for the patient and therapist.
Michael had several injections of botox over a period of time. The injections for us last about 3 – 4 months, but it differs among patients. We’ve had some great success in the beginning, but over the years it became less so. In the end we discontinued the procedure and opted for other alternatives. I do want to emphasize that I have spoken to many parents who continue to have great success with this procedure.
